The Spark Project – Reconnecting Italian and Multicultural Seniors Post Covid-19
This project provides targeted social support for multicultural elderly living in the Liverpool LGA, especially Italian elders, through information with respect to social programs, re-engagement in the community after a long period of isolation due to Covid-19 or other illness and assistance with developing an independent and contributory lifestyle within the community.

Seniors are provided with a point of contact to acquire information and be directed to services which allow for their full participation in the community. This will also include a calendar of gatherings, outings and workshops to increase self-confidence and learn about different services available locally.
Post-pandemic “normal” life can seem more daunting than the onset of the pandemic itself.
The spark project, therefore, directly responds to research pointing out that “social fractures require greater examination and consideration if we are to aim towards a more cohesive and equitable Australia”
The Ethnic Communities Council of Australia has further highlighted that “CALD communities also faced limited information and access to services despite the increased need for them”, in a return to active participation in the community post-pandemic. “Sparking” our seniors’ minds with information about how to seek help and reconnect with community services is central to building a more cohesive and wellbeing-centred community.
